Donald Trump Thanked Indian Airline-SpiceJet
NEW DELHI:
US President Donald Trump on Monday thanked Gurgaon-based budget carrier SpiceJet for placing a large order for aircraft from American multinational Boeing.
The order would create thousands of jobs in the US, Trump said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House in Washington DC on Monday, where the US President praised PM Modi for his efforts back home, saying he's doing a "great job".

"Economically, India is doing very well," Trump said.
SpiceJet has placed a $22 billion order with Boeing for up to 205 planes to be manufactured in the US. This would create 1,32,000 high-skilled, high-paid American jobs within the US, according to the US Department of Commerce.
Interestingly, Trump's Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross's private equity firm Wilbur Ross and Co. had invested $86 million in SpiceJet in 2008. However, in 2010, Ross sold his 30 per cent stake in SpiceJet for $127 million.
On how SpiceJet plans to finance the aircraft order, the company's chairman and managing director Ajay Singh said, "Funding arrangements for those are coming very quickly in place. We have already funded significant number of those aircraft through a sale and leaseback mechanism. And we have several offers."

India was the fastest
growing aviation market in the world last year, toppled recently from the top
spot by China. In March, China's passenger traffic in the domestic aviation
market grew by 15.1 per cent on year, compared to India's 14.6 per cent growth,
according to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the
global airline industry's trade association. Planemakers like Boeing look at
India as a crucial market given its increasing demand and growth numbers.
SpiceJet, which was on the verge of shutdown about a
couple of years back, incredibly turned around its fate after the original
promoter of the company Ajay Singh came back and took charge in January 2015,
steering the company out of troubled waters.
"For the last 25 months in a row, we have had a load
factor in excess of 92 per cent and that is something of a global record. This
is combined with the fact that we have had the best on-time performance in
FY17, we have now had nine profitable quarters and we have had amongst the
least cancellations in the industry," Singh said.
The SpiceJet stock is up 124 per cent in the current calendar year and has gained more than 800 per cent since the airline nearly shut shop in December 2014. It currently has a market value of $1.2 billion.

Modi-Trump meeting-No Talks about H1-B Visa Issue.
WASHINGTON: The H-1B visa issue that was looming on the India-US relationship
in the run up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden meeting with President Donald Trump did not figure in the talks between the two
leaders.
With the Trump administration undertaking a review of the H-1B visa, the most sought-after by Indian IT professionals,
the issue had taken centre stage ahead of Modi's US visit with the issue
expected to figure prominently in bilateral discussions .
However, the H-1B issue specifically did not figure in the
talks with foreign secretary S Jaishankar telling reporters that there was a
lot of discussion with business leaders and the two leaders about the digital
partnership when asked about whether H-1B visa issue figured in the talks.
"There is recognition that the Indian-American community
has played an extraordinary role in building this relationship. When you value
something it is obvious that you will take care of what you value,"
Jaishankar said.
There was also no mention of the H-1B visa issue in the India-US joint statementissued after the two leaders met.
The White House, in a fact sheet, said Indian-Americans have
embraced innovation and entrepreneurship, sitting at the forefront of Silicon
Valley's technology revolution, and founding an estimated 15 per cent of
Silicon Valley startups.
"They have helped to develop the Pentium chip, fiber
optics, and noise cancelling headphones, among numerous other
innovations," it said.
Today, nearly four million Indian-Americans reside in the
United States and over 7,00,000 US citizens live in India.
Last year, the United States government issued nearly one
million visas to Indian citizens, and facilitated 1.7 million visits by Indian
citizens to the United States.
Ahead of the meeting, a senior Trump administration official
had said the Trump administration has signed some executive orders related to
work and immigration, and President Trump's executive order on H-1B visas
directs the Secretary of State, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Labor
and the Secretary of Homeland Security to propose potential reforms to the H-1B
visa programme.
"However, there have been no immediate changes to
visa application or issuance procedures, so we're not in a position to kind of
prejudge what the outcome of the review might be. So there's really been no
changes as such at this point, and no specific changes that target any specific
country or sector as of yet," the official had said.
There have been growing concerns in India over
the crack down on H-1B visas
Trump signed an executive order in April for tightening
the rules of the H-1B visa programme to stop "visa abuses".
Trump said his administration is going to
enforce 'Hire American' rules that are designed to protect jobs of workers in
the US.

International Yoga Day: PM Narendra Modi Says..
LUCKNOW: Prime Minister Narendra
Modi on Wednesday urged everyone to make Yoga a part
of their lives and said that it has played a big role in connecting the world
with India.
"Many countries which do not know our language, tradition, or culture, are now connecting to India through Yoga.
"Many countries which do not know our language, tradition, or culture, are now connecting to India through Yoga.
The practice,
which connects body, mind and soul, has played a big role in binding the world
too," PM Modi said while leading the third International Yoga
Day celebrations in Lucknow.
Donning a white t-shirt and loose trousers, Modi also performed asanas along with over 50,000 yoga enthusiasts braving early morning drizzles.
"Earlier, Yoga was only restricted to saints and seers in the Himalayan mountains. Now, it has become part of every person's life," he said in his address.
He also asserted that attaining "wellness" through yoga was more important than simply being physically fit.

He also asserted that attaining "wellness" through yoga was more important than simply being physically fit.
"It is not important to perform yoga for 24 hours. 50 or 60 minutes (is fine) because it lends harmony to the body, mind and intellect. If 1.25 billion Indians and people around the world can attain this state of well-being, then humankind can also tide over problems born out of human thoughts," he said.
He also explained the importance of Yoga using an analogy of
salt.
"Just as the importance of salt is not only to lend taste to food, but also ensure well-being of the body, similarly Yoga can have the same importance as salt has in life," he said.
He said yoga is like free health assurance. "It is not even expensive to practice," he said.
"I urge everyone to make yoga a part of their lives," he said, adding that he was glad to see several yoga institutes take shape over the last three years.

Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik and chief minister Yogi Adityanath joined the Prime Minister in performing yoga at the sprawling venue.
In his address, Adityanath thanked Modi for enhancing Yoga's reputation globally.
Intermittent rains since morning failed to deter thousands of yoga enthusiasts, who enjoyed performing asanas fully drenched.
Three years ago, Modi had persuaded the United Nations to
declare June 21 as the International Yoga Day.
